Terms of Service

1. These terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to the KBeat Suite public website and use of KBeat software distributed by the project. By using the website or software, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.

2. The software

KBeat is a suite of separately installable KDE Plasma applications and an optional single-user server. Features may include Calendar, Tasks, Converter, Journal, Scraps, a Plasma widget, an optional Gmail unread indicator, shared Settings, and KBeatDav.

KBeat is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. The applicable source files and distributed packages may include additional notices for third-party components. The open-source license controls your rights to copy, modify, and redistribute the software; these Terms do not replace or restrict those license rights.

3. No hosted KBeat account

The project does not provide a centralized KBeat cloud account. Most features run locally. If you connect a provider or deploy KBeatDav, your relationship with that provider, hosting company, network operator, or server administrator is separate from these Terms.

4. Third-party services

KBeat can connect to services such as Google, weather providers, CalDAV servers, Secret Service implementations, and infrastructure you operate. Those services have their own terms, privacy practices, availability, quotas, and fees. You are responsible for complying with their requirements and for supplying valid credentials or API registrations where needed.

KBeat is not sponsored by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Google, KDE e.V., calendar providers, weather providers, or hosting companies merely because it interoperates with their products or protocols.

5. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

• keeping independent backups of information that matters to you;
• protecting your device account, Secret Service, recovery phrases, passwords, OAuth registrations, server credentials, and backups;
• configuring HTTPS, authentication, rate limits, and system updates for any remotely reachable KBeatDav deployment;
• confirming that calendar, task, note, and Journal synchronization behaves as expected before relying on it across devices;
• using provider APIs and connected services lawfully and within their published limits; and
• reviewing release notes and migration guidance before changing versions.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use KBeat or its website to violate applicable law, gain unauthorized access to systems or accounts, interfere with services, distribute malicious software, or infringe another person's rights. Do not misrepresent an unofficial build as an official KBeat release.

7. Development status and changes

KBeat may change, remove, or replace features, formats, compatibility behavior, and package boundaries as it develops. Preview and prerelease builds may contain defects or incomplete migrations and should not be your only copy of important information. Publicly supported versions, if any, will be identified with their releases.

8. Donations

KBeat may accept voluntary donations. A donation supports development; it does not purchase a license, guarantee a particular feature, create a service-level agreement, or give the donor control over technical or product decisions. Unless stated otherwise at the point of donation, donations are nonrefundable to the extent permitted by law.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the website and software are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, noninfringement, accuracy, availability, security, compatibility, and freedom from defects.

The project does not promise that synchronization will be uninterrupted, that every provider will remain compatible, that reminders or notifications will always arrive, or that data can always be recovered.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the project owner and contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, opportunity, revenue, profits, goodwill, or use arising from the website, software, connected providers, or self-hosted services.

Some jurisdictions do not allow particular warranty exclusions or liability limitations. In those jurisdictions, these provisions apply only to the extent permitted by law.

11. Privacy

The KBeat Privacy Policy explains how the website and applications handle information and is incorporated into these Terms.

12. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated to reflect software, legal, or operational changes. The effective date above will change when a revision is published. Continued use after a revision becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
